“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” Jeremiah 29:11
Life has a way of getting us down. At times, it seems like the challenges we face are insurmountable; we feel alone and the future looks dim. Do you realize that God anticipated this? Do you know that our valleys do not catch God by surprise! These well-known words were spoken by God, through the prophet Jeremiah, to the nation of Israel- a group of people who had been conquered by their enemies and dragged off to a foreign land. They felt as if they had no future and many of them even doubted God’s existence. But God wanted them to know that He had a plan for them- a great plan! And He wants us to know this as well. All is not lost. We may be down, but God’s plan for us is still very much in motion. Here is the word that the LORD spoke to His people in the very next chapter:
“From you will come songs of thanksgiving and the sound of rejoicing. So you will be my people, and I will be your God.” Jeremiah 30: 19, 22
There will soon come a day when you will be praising God and rejoicing. Take heart! Believe it.
